UCSB's Black Studies Department
The University of California, Santa Barbara received it's Black Studies department on October 2nd of 1969, after a protest by African American students. As well as joining the civil rights movement, these student gathered in North Hall to protest. The Students established a list of demands pertaining to the changes they wanted to see on campus. The protest occurred in 1968 and a year later UCSB's Black Studies Department was established along with the center for black studies which was also on the list of demands.
